Nestled north of the Silvermine mountain range, the area is named after centuries of mining for lead, zinc, copper, baryte, and silver nearby. To the south rises Keeper Hill (Sliabh Cimeálta), the highest peak in the range at 695m. Its summit offers panoramic views across Munster, making it a popular destination for hikers.
