The local authority’s submission on the planning application will be sent to An Coimisiún Pleanala this week after being approved at yesterday’s monthly meeting.

A resolution from the Councillors will be added to the document along with the minutes of the meeting which will feature many of the concerns raised about the ecological impact.

A decision from the Coimisiún is expected to take two years or more.

Sinead Carr says the Chief Executive’s report echoes the serious reservations raised by the Councillors

She says Tipperary cannot be allowed to be disadvantaged by Uisce Eireann’s plans for the Shannon Pipeline.

The plan is to build a 170-kilometre pipeline at a cost of up to €10 billion from Tipperary to Dublin but local Councillors claim it will have a devastating effect on the River Shannon and the Lough Derg region.

Sinead Carr is confident that An Coimisiún Pleanala will carefully examine their serious concerns over the Shannon pipeline plans.

Local Councillors have built a strong case against it going ahead and the official report on it from the local authority Management also raises serious concerns.
